The Manchester Alexander Technique Training School (MATTS) offers a thorough three-year teacher training course following the principles outlined in Alexander's books and leading to Certification by the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) and also by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council's UK Register of practitioners.
Links with the Royal Northern College of Music give trainees many benefits, including excellent opportunities for supervised teaching practice and research. Visitors are welcome any time by prior arrangement with the Head of Training.
Newly qualified teachers are eligible to become members of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) the original and largest representative and regulatory professional body for Alexander teachers. The STAT Certificate is also recognised by the 16 affiliated national societies (visit STAT).
The Manchester Alexander Technique Training School has been closed since October 2017. However, plans are advancing to re-open the school soon, possibly in spring 2019.
In the meantime, there is a continuing Thursday morning class (09.00-13.00) in Wilmslow, along similar lines to MATTS. Classes include support for teachers, experience and preparation to anyone considering training as a teacher in the future and an opportunity for advanced study for enthusiastic private pupils.
Please contact Peter Bloch with any questions and/or to register your interest in visiting the class or in training as a teacher at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This website continues to provide information and source material and a list of MATTS-qualified teachers. Workshops and post-graduate courses will be offered from time to time. Watch for announcements.
A list of MATTS teachers can be found on the Lessons Page
