Individual Lessons

"The Alexander Technique teaches you how to bring more practical intelligence into whatever you are already doing." (Jones 1976) It is a tried and tested method for improving performance in all activities and is a self-help method for resolving a wide range of functional, ‘use-related’ health problems. The Alexander Technique is best learned through taking an introductory course of 20-30 individual lessons, although a few can make a difference. Lessons usually last 30-40 minutes and fees generally range from £30-£50.

The following STAT-registered teachers in the Greater Manchester/Cheshire area are closely associated with MATTS and may be contacted for information on the Alexander Technique or to arrange individual Alexander lessons:

Those marked * also run introductory group classes.

She trained as an Alexander teacher with Elisabeth Walker in the mid-1990s and, until recently, was head of voice at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Theatre School. She continues to conduct workshops in "releasing the voice into speech" in Manchester and throughout the UK.

Alice Burke
I originally came to Alexander Technique through music after developing RSI from studying jazz flute at music college. I was surprised to find that the Technique not only helped me to cope with the RSI and finding a new approach to music but also helped me in many other aspects of my life. I trained at MATTS and am now teaching Alexander Technique and music in Liverpool.

Kathy Charlton

I first discovered the Alexander Technique in the 1990s, having suffered 10 years of chronic back pain. I tried many forms of treatment without success, but the Technique was a revelation. It allowed me to move again with freedom and without pain. I was so impressed with the Technique that I left my career in education and moved from Nottingham to undertake the training course in Manchester. During my training I discovered all the other wonderful benefits of the Technique. It is stimulating and life-changing.
